Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently used terms

In-ground burial - As the most traditional burial choice, in-ground burial typically involves a casket and is marked by a memorial tribute. Below ground burials are usually preceded by a funeral service as well. Gravesite - the space or plot used for burial. Vault - a concrete enclosure that serves as the casket's protective lining and provides safe, sure footing for your loved ones. Opening-and-Closing - preparation of gravesite for burial service that consists of ground opening, closing (back-filling), and landscaping (to restore gravesite's appearance). Urn - cremation urns are decorative personal containers that keep your memory alive. Not only can cremation urns for funerals be personalized, they can also be used as your final resting place. Memorial (also called a headstone or marker) - a special plaque placed at the gravesite that typically shows the name, dates of birth and passing, and decorative emblems that help to personalize it.

What is needed for a traditional in-ground burial?

A traditional in-ground burial typically consists of five components:

  • Casket – displays and contains the deceased, either for burial or cremation.
  • Gravesite – the space or plot.
  • Memorial – a tribute installed at the gravesite to honor and celebrate a life worth remembering. Flat bronze markers are installed at memorial parks and upright granite monuments are installed at cemeteries.
  • Vault – a concrete enclosure that serves as the casket's protective lining and provides safe, sure footing for your loved ones.
  • Opening-and-Closing – preparation of gravesite for burial service that consists of ground opening, closing (back-filling), and landscaping (to restore gravesite's appearance).

Can I pre-pay opening and closing costs?

No. Arkansas state law does not permit the pre-payment of opening and closing costs. A grave opening-and-closing or interment service is a requirement for any mausoleum crypt entombment, in-ground burial, or mausoleum cremation niche entombment. The burial ground opening and closing is performed by the cemetery at the time of the service. The process and cost of opening and closing a grave will differ depending on the type of burial service performed as well as the place of burial used in the cemetery.

Who provides temporary grave markers?

Temporary grave markers are provided by the funeral home. They are not intended to be a long-lasting solution and will fade away under bright sunlight or from exposure to moisture. A permanent memorial is necessary in order to properly mark a burial location. They can be purchased through Arkansas Memorial Gardens via our special financing option with zero interest, no credit required, and low monthly payments. Call our office at 501-985-2723 for more information.

Do you sell flowers?

No. Flowers can be purchased at a florist or any store that sells flowers. We do not accept delivery of flowers to our office unless arranged in advance.

I've just lost a loved one. Can I make payments on the burial service?

Unfortunately, it isn't possible to make payments on an "at-need" burial service-- all payments must be made in full before the burial service begins. However, AMG offers our special low-cost First in the Family program for "at-need" burials that can greatly reduce overall costs. Please call our office at 501.985.2723 for more information.

What are the headstone/memorial requirements for Arkansas Memorial Gardens?

Arkansas Memorial Gardens only uses flat markers consisting of a bronze plaque mounted on a granite base. We do not allow any other type of memorial to be set. There are very specific requirements for the dimensions of the plaque and the granite base. We sell the required memorials at our office. We have low cost memorials with zero-interest financing plans and no credit required with only $50.00 down. Please call us at 501.985.2723 for more information.
